Modi govt appoints Tapan Deka as Intel Bureau chief | All you need to know

The Modi govt has appointed Tapan Kumar Deka as the director of the Intelligence Bureau. Deka, a 1988 batch IPS officer from Himachal cadre, will be the Intelligence Bureau chief for two years. The new IB chief will replace incumbent director Arvind Kumar whose tenure ends on June 30. Currently, Tapan Deka heads the operations desk of the Intelligence Bureau. The government has chosen Deka over four other senior IB officers, placing merit over seniority. For the past two decades, Deka has been monitoring terrorists and religious radicalization.
