Modi govt's move to shed colonial past; Rajpath to be renamed ‘Kartavya Path’

- The revamped Rajpath and Central Vista lawns in Delhi will be renamed to Kartavya Path. The move is in line with PM Modi's push to shed symbols of colonial past. In this year's Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra had stressed on the abolition of symbols reminiscent of British Raj. The entire stretch of road from the Netaji statue to the Rashtrapati Bhavan will now bear the new name. New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has convened a special meeting on September 7 with the objective of renaming the stretch.
