New Langya virus sickens dozens in China, symptoms include impaired liver

  • Nearly three dozen people in China have been sickened by a newly identified virus. The Novel Langya Henipavirus (LayV) was likely transmitted from animals to humans. Scientists feel LayV likely emerged in shrews, small mammals, who then passed it on. The Langya virus is from the same family as the deadly Nipah and Hendra viruses. The Hendra & Nipah viruses have an estimated mortality rate of between about 40-70%. So far, there is no evidence that the LayV virus can transmit among humans. Watch this report to know more.
