S Phangnon Konyak, the president of BJP Nagaland Mahila Morcha, took oath in the Upper House wearing her traditional Naga clothes and jewelry. Konyak was elected unopposed as the Rajya Sabha member from Nagaland on March 31. The 44-yr-old is the first woman from the state to get a berth in Parliament’s Upper House. Konyak stood as the consensus candidate of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
