SpiceJet to re-train its 90 grounded pilots after regulator DGCA's 10 lakh fine

Published on Jun 06, 2022 07:44 pm IST

  • After the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) imposed a 10 lakh fine on SpiceJet airline for training pilots on faulty simulators, the airline has decided to re-train all the 90 barred pilots. The DGCA had barred 90 SpiceJet pilots from operating the Boeing 737 Max aircraft after noticing poor landing because of lack of training. The airline, however, has said that this retraining exercise won't impact its operations. Notably, this happened within eight months of the DGCA lifting a ban on Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. While it was grounded worldwide from March 2019 to December 2020 following two crashes — in Indonesia and Ethiopia — killing 346, DGCA lifted the ban much later in August last year.
