History revisted: Los Angeles to host an Olympic Games for third time

Just as in 1932 and 1984, by default Los Angeles has been awarded the 2028 Olympics. Back in 1932 during the Great Depression no other city attempted to host the Games. In 1984, Tehran pulled out in their attempt to bring the Games to the Middle-East. And this time around only Paris and Los Angeles competed for the 2024 and 2028 with Los Angeles awarded the latter. On Tuesday evening, the Olympic flame was lit at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, home of the 1932 and 1984 Summer Games. Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Olympics, having received the formal go-ahead from the International Olympic Committee's evaluation commission. (Video: SNTV)
