'THAAD not negotiable': South Korea clashes with China over anti-missile system
Published on Aug 13, 2022 05:16 pm IST
A reemerging rift - China and South Korea spar over U.S. missile defence shield. The bone of contention is the cutting-edge U.S. anti-missile system, the THAAD. Pushing back at China, South Korea stated the deployment is 'not negotiable'. South Korea said THAAD is a means of self-defence & can never be subject to negotiations. South Korea sees the weapon system as key to countering North Korean missiles. Beijing fears the radar of the THAAD will enable spying on Chinese missile systems.
