A senior Trump administration official reportedly warned Iran in advance about the U.S. plan to “guide” ships through the Strait of Hormuz, telling Tehran not to interfere as Washington tried to reduce the risk of escalation. Axios reporting, echoed by other outlets, says the private message was sent on May 3 before the launch of “Project Freedom,” suggesting the White House wanted to create some deconfliction even while asserting navigation rights.
