In a major move, the United States has launched new initiatives to cut delays in visa processing in India. The U.S. Embassy in Delhi said that it will schedule special interviews for first time applicants and increase strength of consular staff to speed up the process. The U.S. embassy in Delhi and consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad conducted 'special Saturday interview days' on January 21 as a part of the multi-pronged approach to cut the visa backlog. It also added that the US State Department has implemented remote processing of interview waiver cases for applicants with previous US visas. The United States mission in India released more than 250,000 additional business and tourist visa appointments.
