- U.S Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns said that China needs to show the world that it is not an agent of instability and will act peacefully in the Taiwan Strait. Referring to China’s aggressive military drills around Taiwan in the recent weeks, Burns told CNN that U.S does ‘not believe there should be a crisis in U.S-China relations over the peaceful visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to Taiwan’. Burns further called it a ‘manufactured crisis’ and an ‘overreaction’ on Beijing’s part. U.S –China relations have been strained recently by tensions over a range of issues including China’s military expansion in the South China Sea.
