China: Lockdown back as Delta variant exposes 'victory against Covid' claim

Lockdown, travel curbs and mass testing are back in China as the country battles covid surge caused by highly infectious delta variant. The delta variant has been detected in more than a dozen cities of China since July and prompted authorities to impose lockdown to prevent further transmission of the infection. Chinese government has axed several officials for their alleged negligence in curbing the covid spread. Authorities in Beijing have banned travellers from high-risk provinces. China's tally of infections stand at 93, 826 since the outbreak began while deaths stayed at 4,636.
