- President Joe Biden has said that the US combat mission in Iraq will conclude by the end of the year. The announcement comes on the heels of Biden's decision to withdraw fully from Afghanistan nearly 20 years after the US launched that war in response to 9/11terrorist attacks. The U.S troops returned to Iraq in 2014 after the emergence of ISIS terrorist group that had captured large parts of the country and neighbouring Syria. Currently, there are 2,500 U.S troops in Iraq.
