Iraq’s Sufis remember God through bizarre body piercing ritual

Using knives and skewers, followers of a mystical Sufi order in southern Iraq pierce their mouths and heads as part of a religious custom. Kasnazani devotees first spin & sway into a trance as part of a ceremony to remember God. They then use skewers and knives to penetrate their bodies. Sufism is a mystical form of Islam. The Kasnazani sect is believed to be the largest Sufi order in Iraq.
