North Korea goes 30 minutes forward in time

Updated on May 06, 2018 06:06 pm IST

North Korea set its clocks forward by 30 minutes on Friday to match South Korean time zone. The move came after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un promised to sync his time zone with that of South Korea's during the inter-Korean summit in the last week of April. North Korea had set its time-zone back by 30 minutes in 2015 in an effort to go back to the time zone used in the peninsula before it was colonised by Japan in 1910. Seoul has welcomed the change, saying it is a move towards better inter-Korean relations.
