Russia blocks UN Nuclear Treaty agreement. Here's why
Updated on Aug 27, 2022 07:38 pm IST
- The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review talks at the United Nations ended in failure after Russia blocked agreement on the final draft. After almost a month of discussions, the conference closed without a consensus. As per reports, Moscow objected to a clause about control over the Zaporizhzhia power plant in Ukraine. The failure to arrive at a joint statement deals a big blow to hopes of an arms control regime. The development comes as fears mount over the safety of Europe's largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine where shelling has increased recently.
