The US has admitted to detecting at least three Chinese balloon incidents during the previous Donald Trump administration. A senior US military general responsible for bringing down the recent Chinese "spy balloon" said that the military had not detected previous spy balloons over the US airspace and called it an "awareness gap." According to people familiar with the matter, Chinese balloons were spotted on several occasions during the Trump administration, including three instances where they travelled near sensitive US military facilities and training areas.
