Watch | Battle of the brushes as Japanese exercise their calligraphy skills

Thousands of people take part in an annual calligraphy competition in Japan's capital to mark the start of the New Year. It was held at the Judo stadium which was first used for the Summer Olympics in 1964. Participants used brushes made of horsehair and ink made of charcoal.
