Watch | Gang-rape survivor walks the ramp in Pakistan fashion week
Fourteen years ago, a local tribal court sentenced Mukhtaran Mai. She was gang-raped and paraded naked through her village. It was a punishment for her brother's fault. But unlike other such victims, Mukhtaran stood up. Even though all 14 culprits were eventually let off, Mai went on to become an international advocate for women's rights and founded a charity that sponsors a women's shelter and a girl's school in her rural hometown of Meerwala. On Tuesday, Mukhtaran Mai walked the ramp in Pakistan fashion week in Karachi. The country's elite fashion crowd gave her a red carpet reception thanks to her courage and work as a women's rights campaigner.
