'Conspiracy' behind Shahzain Bugti's detention

Updated on Jan 17, 2011 11:43 pm IST

Pakistan's security forces continue to target political activists in Balochistan by putting them behind bars on false charges. The latest victim is Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti, provincial President of Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) and grandson of late Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. On December 22, 2010 the Frontier Corps arrested Shahzain Bugti along with his 27 bodyguards at Baleli check-post and allegedly seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession. However, Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti termed the recovery of arms and ammunition a conspiracy against him, saying that heavy weapons, shown by the Frontier Corps were not recovered from his vehicles. The main objective behind this conspiracy was to foil Shahzain's long march to Dera Bugti.
