Migrants speak: Surviving the boat capsize in Mediterranean
Updated on Jun 07, 2016 05:47 pm IST
An overcrowded boat with hundreds of migrants on the Mediterranean route from Libya flipped over on May 25. Hundreds of people scrambled to get off. At least five people are confirmed dead in the accident - but the real toll could be around 250. Jaqali's wife, daughter and one son, also made it to safety. Their older son, 17 -year-old Mohammed, did not. Laila Samiya also made it to a lifeboat. She says the dozens of migrants seen in the water are only a fraction of those packed on board.
Samiya, heading to Germany be reunited with her husband, is optimistic about the future. But for the Jaqalis sadness endures as they mourn a son who also dreamed of a future in Europe.
