Pakistani authorities searched for their ambassador to Afghanistan on February 12, a day after he went missing with fears that he was kidnapped in a Pakistani tribal region plagued by bandits and militants. Interior Ministry Spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema refused to comment on media reports that the militants were demanding release of a prominent Taliban commander arrested on February 11, in exchange for the envoy's release.
