Rehman Malik’s senate membership suspended
Updated on Jun 04, 2012 08:49 pm IST
The Pakistan Supreme Court today suspended Interior Minister Rehman Malik's membership of the Senate or Upper House of Parliament on grounds of dual nationality. During the hearing, Malik's lawyer had presented his client's declaration of renouncing his British nationality, but the three-member bench ignored the documents citing it as 'meaningless'. The documents suggested that Malik was holding dual nationality at the time when he became a member of the Senate, the court quoted. Malik's lawyer had submitted an affidavit before the court earlier stating that he renounced his British citizenship in 2008, but had failed to produce the required evidence.
