Residents in Sri Lanka's Jaffna struggle to survive
Updated on May 04, 2008 08:14 pm IST
Jaffna town appears to be buzzing with life. Buses are plying the roads under the guard of the Sri Lanka military. People are attending to their daily shopping and shops are well stocked. This is a major improvement since fresh fighting erupted at the end of 2006 between the government and the LTTE. When the fighting erupted the main highway linking the peninsula to the mainland was cut off and increased rebel activity was followed by a crackdown by the military.
