Superstorm Sandy: Obama declares emergency

Even as big cities and small towns from Washington to Boston buttoned up against the onslaught of superstorm sandy, that could potentially endanger 50 million people in the US, with forecasters warning that the New York area could get the worst of it-an 11-foot wall of water, President Barack Obama has declared a state of emergency in the nation's capital. Residents of Point Pleasant, New Jersey were ordered to evacuate as Hurricane Sandy moved closer to shore. Many of them worked on boarding up their windows and preparing for the worst.
