Xi flips the game on Trump's nuclear push, lectures him on expired START deal with Russia | Putin

China has urged the United States to resume strategic stability talks with Russia after President Donald Trump rejected extending the expired New START nuclear arms control treaty in favour of negotiating a new agreement. Beijing framed renewed US‑Russia dialogue as a shared expectation of the international community, while Moscow expressed regret over the treaty’s end but pledged to remain a “responsible” nuclear power as Washington and Moscow reopen high-level military contacts after talks in Abu Dhabi. At the same briefing, China also signalled openness to repairing ties with Lithuania after Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene called the opening of a “Taiwanese Representative Office” in Vilnius a strategic mistake, with Beijing urging Vilnius to realign fully with the One‑China principle.
