Chinese biopic to close Venice Film Festival

The 71st edition of the Venice Film Festival will close with a biopic, The Golden Era, by China’s Ann Hu -- who will also chair the Orizzonti Jury, the section most important after Competition.

The movie is about Xiao Hong, one of the most radical and controversial Chinese writers of the early 20th century. Tang Wei will play the author.



Hui , the first woman director to win the Asian Film Award (the Asian Oscar) for lifetime achievement, has made nearly 30 features and is considered one of the leading figures in the Hong Kong New Wave of the 1970s and 1980s. In 2011, she was acclaimed at Venice for A Simple Life.



The Festival runs from August 27 to September 6, and will announce its opening film soon.
