US conservative leader and a close ally of President Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, died after he was shot while speaking at a student-sponsored outdoor event with his Turning Point USA advocacy group at Utah Valley University. After being shot in the neck, he was rushed to the Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead a few hours later.
US President Donald Trump confirmed his passing and said that no one understood or had the heart of the youth in the US the way Charlie Kirk did.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" he posted on Truth Social.

Later, the President released a video statement on Kirk's assassination and blamed the 'radical left' for his murder. He accused them of comparing people like Kirk to "Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals". He vowed to punish each one responsible for this murder.
What police statement said?
A statement released by the Utah Department of Public Safety earlier said the shooting is still an active investigation.
Law enforcement authorities initially took one George Zinn into custody as a suspect, but later released him and charged him with obstruction by UVU police.
A second suspect, Zachariah Qureshi, was later taken into custody, but he was also released after interrogation. The statement said that neither of these individuals is linked to the shooting currently.
The probe, being conducted by the Utah DPS and the FBI, along with the Utah County Attorney' office, the County Sheriffs' office and local police departments, is still underway. The manhunt for the shooter is on, they said.
How did Charlie Kirk die?
Law enforcement authorities believe that the shooter fired from the roof of a building down to the location of the public event in the student courtyard.

Though the Utah Department of Public Safety did not provide any further information, it said that around 3,000 people attended the event Kirk was speaking at. They added that UVU PD had six officers working the event, in addition to Kirk's security detail.
The statement added that the Utah Valley University campus will be closed for the rest of the week.

- The Federal Bureau of Investigation said that it was probing the assassination in collaboration with local and state law enforcement authorities.
- The manhunt for the shooter is underway as the suspect is yet to be identified. The FBI has asked people to share with the agency any information, photos or videos from the incident to help with the investigation.
- Videos shared on social media showed that Kirk was being asked questions about mass shootings in America when he was shot in the neck.
- Eyewitnesses at the event said that all was going fun until there was a pop sound, and they realised it was a gunshot that had hit Charlie Kirk. Panic and chaos engulfed the campus area as some attendees even screamed at the horror that had just occurred.
- Utah Valley University said the campus was immediately evacuated and remained closed. Classes were cancelled until further notice. Those still on campus were asked to stay in place until police officers could safely escort them off campus.

Charlie Kirk's 'American Comeback Tour’ was scheduled to continue through October and beyond, NBC report. According to the tour's website, Kirk was expected to visit the Colorado State University next week.
The tour included stops to the University of Minnesota on Sept. 22, Virginia Tech on Sept. 24, Utah State University on Sept. 30, Indiana State University on Oct. 21 and Louisiana State University on Oct. 27, according to NBC News.

Charlie Kirk shooting live updates: ‘It was a normal campus day,’ says eyewitness on security at university
An eyewitness, who was present at the Utah Valley University, and saw the shooting take place, said that it was a “normal campus day”, according to CNN affiliate KUTV.
“He was well guarded against someone running up with a knife or someone who was trying to fight him personally, but security in the general area, it was just a normal campus day,” he told KUTV.
The eyewitness said that he was standing just 15 feet away from Kirk, and heard a pop. “I said in my mind ‘that was a gunshot'…I pretty much knew immediately that he wasn’t going to make it,” he said.
