US conservative leader and a close ally of President Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, died after he was shot while speaking at a student-sponsored outdoor event with his Turning Point USA advocacy group at Utah Valley University. After being shot in the neck, he was rushed to the Timpanogos Regional Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead a few hours later.

US President Donald Trump confirmed his passing and said that no one understood or had the heart of the youth in the US the way Charlie Kirk did.

"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" he posted on Truth Social.

Later, the President released a video statement on Kirk's assassination and blamed the 'radical left' for his murder. He accused them of comparing people like Kirk to "Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals". He vowed to punish each one responsible for this murder.

A statement released by the Utah Department of Public Safety earlier said the shooting is still an active investigation.

Law enforcement authorities initially took one George Zinn into custody as a suspect, but later released him and charged him with obstruction by UVU police.

A second suspect, Zachariah Qureshi, was later taken into custody, but he was also released after interrogation. The statement said that neither of these individuals is linked to the shooting currently.

The probe, being conducted by the Utah DPS and the FBI, along with the Utah County Attorney' office, the County Sheriffs' office and local police departments, is still underway. The manhunt for the shooter is on, they said.
