FBI officials held a press conference on Thursday to share details on Charlie Kirk's assassin, saying that they have recovered the "high-powered rifle" used for the assassination. While the shooter responsible for Charlie Kirk's killing remains at large, FBI said they have images of him.

US President Donald Trump confirmed his passing and said that no one understood or had the heart of the youth in the US the way Charlie Kirk did.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" he posted on Truth Social.

Later, the President released a video statement on Kirk's assassination and blamed the 'radical left' for his murder. He accused them of comparing people like Kirk to "Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals". He vowed to punish each one responsible for this murder.
What police statement said?
A statement released by the Utah Department of Public Safety earlier said the shooting is still an active investigation.
Law enforcement authorities initially took one George Zinn into custody as a suspect, but later released him and charged him with obstruction by UVU police.
A second suspect, Zachariah Qureshi, was later taken into custody, but he was also released after interrogation. The statement said that neither of these individuals is linked to the shooting currently.
The probe, being conducted by the Utah DPS and the FBI, along with the Utah County Attorney' office, the County Sheriffs' office and local police departments, is still underway. The manhunt for the shooter is on, they said.
How did Charlie Kirk die?
Law enforcement authorities believe that the shooter fired from the roof of a building down to the location of the public event in the student courtyard.

Though the Utah Department of Public Safety did not provide any further information, it said that around 3,000 people attended the event Kirk was speaking at. They added that UVU PD had six officers working the event, in addition to Kirk's security detail.
The statement added that the Utah Valley University campus will be closed for the rest of the week.

- The Federal Bureau of Investigation said that it was probing the assassination in collaboration with local and state law enforcement authorities.

- Eyewitnesses at the event said that all was going fun until there was a pop sound, and they realised it was a gunshot that had hit Charlie Kirk. Panic and chaos engulfed the campus area as some attendees even screamed at the horror that had just occurred.
- Utah Valley University said the campus was immediately evacuated and remained closed. Classes were cancelled until further notice. Those still on campus were asked to stay in place until police officers could safely escort them off campus.

“The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with FBI.We will provide updates when able.” Patel wrote on X.

US President Donald Trump announced Kirk's death in a post on social media, saying that no one understood or had the heart of the youth in the country better than Charlie.

Charlie Kirk news: Killer still at large
The person who shot dead right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk at a US campus event on Wednesday is still on the run, the university said.
"We currently don't have a suspect in custody. This is an ongoing investigation," Ellen Treanor, a spokesperson for Utah Valley University, told AFP.
