Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu said he and President Donald Trump agreed to meet in the US in the near future, according to a social-media post Saturday from the prime minister’s office.
The two spoke on Friday, with Netanyahu congratulating Trump for the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, according to the post on X.
Netanyahu asked for a meeting at the White House as soon as next week, after Trump returns from the NATO summit in Turkey, Axios reported on Saturday. An Israeli official told the publication the visit may occur the following week.
The two last met in person in February, when the Israeli prime minister presented a plan in the Situation Room for a joint strike against Iran, the New York Times reported in April. Since then, the leaders have diverged on how to end the conflict that began Feb. 28.
