Boston-bound plane vanishes from radar: Here's what we know

The plane in question is a Gulfstream G100, a twin-engine jet in the mid-size category. According to flight-tracking data, it took off from Bermuda International Airport late Friday evening with Boston as its intended destination.

Tracking records suggest the aircraft underwent a dramatic descent in altitude just before radar contact ended.

Officials haven't officially stated whether the plane crashed, and the exact details of what caused the loss of contact remain a mystery. The names and current status of the six passengers and crew members aboard haven't been disclosed yet.

Air Station Cape Cod, USCG Station Brant Point (located in Nantucket), and the USCGC William Sparling, a Fast Response Cutter, are part of the search teams involved, according to the USCG's announcement.

At this moment, no additional details have been made available to the public.
