UPDATE: A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot near Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah, on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Ogden Police Chief Tim Scott said the shooting occurred near the intersection of 5th Street and Gramercy Avenue. The injured teen was taken to the high school, where a school resource officer and staff attempted lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, the victim later died from his injuries.
Police have not yet identified a suspect, and no arrests have been made.
The Ogden School District confirmed that the victim was a student at Ben Lomond High School. However, officials said the shooting did not occur on school grounds, Fox 13 Now reported.
“We are deeply saddened," Ben Lomond High School Principal Velden Wardle said in a statement.
Superintendent Luke Rasmussen added, "Our thoughts are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, school staff, and all who have been impacted by this tragedy."
As a precaution, Ben Lomond High School, Highland Junior High, and East Ridge Elementary were briefly placed on “secure” status. The precautionary lockdowns have since been lifted.

“Please avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to work safely and efficiently. The Ogden School District will share updates with parents and families. We will provide additional information as it becomes available. Thank you for your cooperation."
While some unverified social media posts have suggested a possible shooting or active shooter situation, police have not confirmed those claims. The nature of the incident remains unclear at this time.
