The visiting Afghanistan and Pakistan Presidents on Friday agreed to facilitate electricity trade between South and Central Asia, a decision which could benefit power-starved India in the long run, subject to improved relationship between India and Pakistan.
A decision in this regard was taken here by the visiting Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai in their meeting with the World Bank President Robert B Zoellick held at the bank headquarters in Washington.
Both the Presidents were in the city to attend the trilateral summit with the US which concluded on Thursday.
Following their meeting with the World Bank President, Zardari and Karzai issued a statement pledging support for a proposed $680 million regional electricity transmission project that would supply summer surplus power from Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic to the Afghan capital of Kabul and the North West of Pakistan.
