"I'm happy that the government is trying to repair this particular damage," Liberal MP Tony Abbott said.

Gillard, who is also the education minister, workplace relations minister and minister for social inclusion, is in
India on a mission to repair Australia's reputation as a destination that accepts international students.

Australia's reputation has been tainted following reports Indian students were bashed in Australia earlier this
year, the AAP reported.

Abbott also said that Gillard had too much "on her plate".

"She can't handle education and workplace relations and to think that she can sort out foreign policy as well,
it's just too much."

Abbott said the deputy prime minister was a "very effective politician".
