In the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, BBC on Monday announced commissioning of a unique multi-platform, multi-lingual initiative to deliver international audiences a diverse range of news from across India.
Reporters from BBC's Global News division will travel between April 25 to May 13 through the country by train, investigating what Indians want from their general election and the key themes surrounding it for the 'India Election Train' programme, the BBC said in a statement.
The BBC's approach to covering the Indian election is unique and representative of the breadth and depth of its news gathering facility.
"Multi-platform and multi-lingual, the BBC India Election Train will provide audiences in India and around the world with an in-depth view of the election and the key themes and issues surrounding it," said Richard Sambrook, Director BBC Global News.
The BBC has worked with Indian Railways to design a timetable for the project and the train will travel along Delhi-Allahabad-Mumbai-Hyderabad-Bhubaneshwar-Kolkata-Patna- Allahabad-Delhi route.
Besides views on current economic crisis, the reporters will also gather information on security issues, specially in wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.
