Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama arrived at the White House on Thursday for a meeting with President Barack Obama that has angered China, a White House official said.

The Dalai Lama's arrival was low-key in comparison to normal visits to the West Wing by dignitaries, and took place out of the view of the cameras.

The visit has been roundly condemned by Beijing, which accuses the spiritual leader of fomenting Tibetan separatism.
