Media reports say many barber shops have already been set on fire or bombed. The jehadi ban also covers video stores because music and cinema are also considered un-Islamic, the Daily Times reported on Friday.

A statement put out by a jehadi outfit reads: "Our beloved Muslim brothers, listen and listen attentively and then think over it - shaving off beards is a great sin.

"This (beard) is the sunnah (path) of our beloved Prophet, but regretfully we have been shaving it off and throwing these blessed hairs at dirty places, which is a shame."
