magazine's prestigious 2005 Emerald Honours award for her contribution to medical research.

Mala R Chinoy, well known for her research on Cardiopulmonary Developmental Defects, has been shortlisted for this year's Emerald Honours, the premier award for blacks, Hispanics, Asian Americans and native Americans working in the research sciences.

Chinoy, who has been working in the US since 1988 was supported by the CSIR Pre-doctoral Research Fellowship in India.

The award, announced on Monday, will be presented to Chinoy at a three-day Minorities in Research Science Conference on September 17 at the Baltimore Convention Centre.

The Conference was established by the Science Spectrum magazine to recognise and pay tribute to leaders in medical science field who have made significant impact at both national and international levels.

Chinoy hails from Rajkot in Gujarat and has two siblings, Parasmani Acharya, a physician, and Sujan R Chinoy, Consul General of India in Shanghai.
