Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday asked the US to bridge the existing "trust deficit" with Pakistan and to bolster his government's efforts to combat militancy by providing drone technology and sharing actionable intelligence.
Gilani "underscored the imperative of bridging the existing trust deficit between Pakistan and the US" for the long-term strategic partnership between the two countries during a meeting with an American delegation led by Senator Carl Levin, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee.
He said the US should provide drone technology to Pakistan and share credible and actionable intelligence to strengthen the ongoing drive against militants.
The US should also speedily disburse "long overdue payments under the Coalition Support Fund" for Pakistan's expenses in the war on terror and remove the country from the list of 14 nations whose citizens are subjected to new screening measures during air travel.
Such steps will "significantly improve" the public image of the US among the people of Pakistan, Gilani was quoted as saying in a statement issued by his office.
He regretted the "insinuation emanating from the US about Pakistan's sincerity in the war against terror" and questioned if any other country had made more sacrifices than Pakistan in the campaign to eradicate terrorism.
