Mumbai-born Carl Perreira, 36, was an acquisitions manager at the Allied Irish Bank. On the day he killed himself, he was found to be five times over the legal limit even though he was not known as a heavy drinker.

The inquest at the Westminster Coroner’s Court was told that his suicide was a mystery as he was happily married and was coping well despite the pressures of his job.

Coroner Dr Shirley Radcliffe recorded an open verdict yesterday, saying it was impossible to be sure what had led Perreira to take his own life, the Daily Mail reported.

Dr Radcliffe said: "It's a little bit of a puzzle really as to where he had been, what he was doing and how he had come to consume so much alcohol. There was no planning, he had no psychiatric history, he was obviously an intelligent, hard-working professional, a well liked person.
