Military operations against the Taliban in their heartland of southern Afghanistan are the "cornerstone" of the anti-insurgency war, the top US military commander said on Wednesday.
"Kandahar is what we're looking into now. It is a cornerstone in reversing the momentum for the Taliban," Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters in Kabul.

"The next operations are there," he added.
