Kenyan Airways has offered to make return travel arrangements for the families of those killed in the air crash over Cameroon on Saturday. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the airline has also offered to arrange accommodation for two family members of each of the deceased "for a reasonable duration" to travel to Douala, where the plane crashed.
Those wishing to travel to Douala have been asked to submit their details, including the name of the passenger who was on board the KQ 507. According to Kenyan Airways, 15 Indians are suspected to have been among the 114 people on board the KQ 507.
MEA spokesperson Navtej Singh Sarna said the Indian High Commission in Nigeria has deputed the First Secretary (Consular) to Douala to liaise and assist the families and the authorities to identify the deceased Indians and to transport the bodies.
Search operations are still on. Since the wreckage was found in a swamp, the accident site is inaccessible to vehicles and recovery of bodies is expected to take time.
There have been reports that the black box has been found, which will help investigators find out how the crash occurred. Inclement weather and engine failure are suspected causes.
