A landslide has buried several houses in a remote mountain village in western Nepal, killing at least nine people, an official said on Thursday.

Hum Prasad Adhikari, the chief government administrator in Bajura district, said the landslide hit Amkot village Wednesday night when the residents were sleeping.
The village is about 300 miles (500 kilometers) northwest of the capital, Katmandu.
Adhikari said the village is about a six hour walk from the district capital and rescuers were only able to reach the area Thursday morning.
Landslides are common during the rainy season in Nepal.
