A harried woman lawmaker from the CPN-UML party in Nepal attempted suicide by consuming phenol, complaining of pressure from her party and family.
The incident happened on Wednesday a few hundred meters away from the Parliament where the Constituent Assembly was voting to elect a prime minister.
Sharda Nepali, a 39-year old CA member from the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist Leninist), consumed phenol at her residence at Naya Baneshwor and was rushed to a hospital where she is being treated.
The mother of six children later spoke to reporters and blamed pressures from party and family for the extreme step she took.
She alleged that out of her monthly salary of Rs 60,000 she receives only Rs 20,000 from her party. She had had a heated discussion with her party leaders on Tuesday.
She alleged her husband Ravi Lal has been making false allegations against her that she was pocketing all salaries and allowances.
In Nepal, the Communist parties take a large portion of the salaries from the CA members for party funds.
However, the party denied the charges that any pressure was put on her.

He said the party was providing her money for her personal needs.
