Nepal government on Monday decided to form a committee to seize the property of King Gyanendra and initiate action against the monarch for defending his decision to grab power in 2005.
A council of ministers meeting at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's official residence in Kathmandu decided to set up a ministerial-level committee to nationalise the property of late king Birendra, late queen Aishwarya and King Gyanendra that were received in their capacity as heads of the state.
The committee headed by Minister for Physical Planning and Works Gopal Man Shreshta, has Minister of State for Information and Communication Dilendra Badu and Assistant Minister for General Administration Dharma Nath Prasad Shah, as members.
The cabinet also officially condemned as "unconstitutional" and "undemocratic" the King's Democracy Day message in which he defended his power grab two years ago.
The cabinet decided to initiate action against him based on political agreement.
Badu said the meeting has deciced to "respect" the interim legislature-parliament's proposal regarding king's controversial message and to initiate action after the eight parties give the nod.
In his address to the nation on Nepalese Democracy Day earlier this month, King Gyanendra said he was compelled to seize power because the government had failed to conduct elections and provide public security.
