The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan on Monday disowned a video attributed to the group claiming responsibility for an attempted car bombing in New York City's Times Square.
Pakistani Taliban spokesman Azam Tariq told Peshawar-based reporters on telephone from an undisclosed location, "We don't know about this video. As far as I know, none of our people have posted the video. We have no information about it."
The car bomb was discovered yesterday in Times Square.
However, Tariq said a video featuring Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Hakimullah Mehsud threatening strikes on American soil was genuine.
Pakistani security experts believe the Taliban do not have the capacity to carry out attacks in the US.
A recent offensive killed hundreds of Hakimullah's fighters in South Waziristan tribal region and forced thousands more to flee to other parts of Pakistan’s tribal belt or to Afghanistan.
