A fire at a nursing home near Tokyo killed seven elderly residents and left four others seriously injured, officials said on Friday.
The blaze erupted just before midnight at the nursing home north of Tokyo where 15 elderly residents and one employee were staying, said Isao Kogure, a local police spokesman.

The bodies of the seven dead were recovered on Friday morning, he said, while the four others were receiving treatment in hospital.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
