Watch | Vet comforts terrified dog by joining her in cage

A vet in the U.S. tries to make an abandoned dog more comfortable by sitting and eating in her cage.

Take a look at this picture. It shows a man drinking from a glass while a rather unnerved dog looks on from the corner of a cage.

Now, look at this. The dog is evidently more comfortable in the same environment.

This marvelous transformation was achieved by Dr Andy Mathis, who was looking to calm the abandoned dog’s nerves by sitting and eating in her cage.

Mathis, a veterinarian based in Elberton, United States found the stray dog named Graycie abandoned and in bad health last month. She was diagnosed with hypothermia, emaciation and dehydration among a host of other medical problems.

Mathis took the dog into his care centre but couldn’t decide if he should keep her, given her poor health. So he consulted his colleagues who suggested it’s worth a try. As it turns out, she is now on the road to recovery.

The touching video, shared by Mathis on social media, shows the nervous dog observing the doctor’s tactic of stepping into her cage, sitting down and eating breakfast. Slowly, she manages to relax and moves forward to finish eating a full meal.

This is the same Graycie who weighed just 20 pounds, was dehydrated, extremely skittish around people and was not eating consistently.
