TV queen Sakshi Tanwar has worked in small Bollywood films including C Kkompany (2008), but who would have thought she would bag the lead role opposite Bollywood star Aamir Khan in Dangal? Interestingly, Sakshi wasn’t the first choice for director Nitesh Tiwari. It was Aamir who suggested Sakshi’s name to Nitesh. The film features Aamir as Mahavir Singh Phogat and Sakshi as his wife.
Aamir Khan shared a behind-the-scenes video from Dangal on his Facebook page Tuesday evening. Aamir said in the video that his mom Zeenat Hussain, an avid TV watcher, is a big fan of Sakshi. It was his mother’s love for Sakshi that made Aamir suggest Sakshi’s name for Dangal.
The fact that Sakshi belongs to Alwar, near Haryana, helped her bring out the Haryanavi flavour in the film and strengthened her chances for the rough and tough character.
“One day universe decided to be generous and I became a part of Dangal,” Saksh said in the video. Sakshi went for auditions for the role and finally bagged it.
Dangal is based on the life of ace wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and the journey of his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat. Aamir Khan Productions Dangal is produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao & Siddharth Roy Kapur. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal is slated to release on 23rd December, 2016.
