The attacker managed to flee the crime scene but was later caught and booked under relevant sections of IPC. The youth told the police that he was angry with the woman as she had been rejecting his love proposals.

Police said the stalker earlier lived at the woman’s house as a tenant. He was evicted from the house after the family learnt that he had been following and sexually harassing their daughter. They had also filed a molestation case against him after which police arrested him.

He was sent to jail from where he was later released on bail.

On Saturday, the woman was walking towards a nearby market with her sister when the youth arrived on a white scooty and blocked their way. They entered into an altercation over some issue during which the youth took out a knife and attacked her in full public view. Before locals could rush for help, the attacker fled on his scooter.

“We recorded the woman’s statement and then filed a case. The suspect arrested later in the evening,” said the officer.
